Our law firm is rooted in family with the founding members being brothers, Michael Scanio and Vincent Scanio, Jr.  Michael and Vincent practiced law together for many years and brought on Francesca, Michael’s daughter, and Steven, Michael’s son-in-law. Although Vincent passed away in 2018, Scanio & Scanio, P.C. remains a family firm.

Meet Our Attorneys

Michael Edward Scanio

I have been involved in the active practice of law in Hays, Caldwell, Comal, and Guadalupe Counties since 1974. I have had extensive criminal and civil trial experience with the focus on civil work for the past 20 years. My practice consists primarily of complex family law cases, personal injury and wrongful death work, and an extensive mediation calendar. I will customarily mediate over 200 cases a year. I also have experience in representing clients and mediating in the collaborative law process.

I am a Trained Mediator, specific training in Family Mediation. I am fluent in Spanish, which has been an important part of my practice since 1974. I am able to and enjoy representing clients whose primary language is Spanish. I have conducted mediations in Spanish. I love languages, traveling, and meeting people from diverse backgrounds.  In addition to being fluent in Spanish, I have a working knowledge of Italian and German.

I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin, majoring in Economics with honors.  I then attended law school at the University of Texas at Austin and I was admitted to practice law in the State of Texas in 1974.  In 1977, I served as the president of the Hays County Bar Association.  San Marcos is a beautiful college town that I have called home for the past 45 years

Francesca Scanio Stacey

As a native Texan, I enjoy being a part of the central Texas community and helping our residents resolve their legal issues in a way that creates the least amount of hurt to their families and themselves. I practice family law, criminal law, estate planning, probate, guardianships, and serve as an attorney ad litem. I am a trained mediator. My goal is to work with each client to create legal solutions that work best for their lives and situations with the least amount of harm.

I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin with a major in Spanish and minor in Italian.  I received my law degree from Texas Wesleyan University School of Law, now known as Texas A&M School of Law.  I have been licensed to practice law in the State of Texas since 2012.

I am a current member of the Hays County Bar Association, Texas Bar College, Texas Criminal Defense Lawyer’s Association, Family Law Section of the State Bar of Texas, Animal Law Section of the State Bar of Texas, and Real Estate, Probate, Trusts, and Estate Planning Section of the State Bar of Texas. I am also a past president of the Hays-Caldwell County Young Lawyer’s Association and a prior board member of the Central Texas Dispute Resolution Center.

Family is important to me as a wife, mother, daughter, and sister. I love being outdoors, traveling, and doing yoga. By practicing and teaching yoga I am able to stay grounded and focused.

Steven James Stacey
Of Counsel

I come from a small mining town in eastern Arizona.  I was raised by teachers who were instrumental in my growth as a student and as a man.  I moved to Texas in 2013 and have made Texas my home ever since. My wife and daughter are an important part of my life. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, watching movies, and writing books.

I received my undergraduate degree from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, where I studied Economics.  I received my law degree from the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University and I have been licensed to practice law in the State of Texas since 2013.

I am a current member of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyer’s Association, the Hays County Bar Association, the Texas Bar College, and the Family Law Section of the State Bar of Texas.  I am also a former officer of the Hays-Caldwell County Young Lawyer’s Association.
